Biography of Lynn Yoder Lynn

Lynn Yoder has been creating art since childhood. He developed a liking for drawing at the age of nine by copying wildlife pictures from a children’s magazine. During grade school, he won numerous awards in local art shows. In High School, his art teacher introduced him to portrait painting. Today, the figure in oil is the focus of his professional portfolio.

Lynn attended Garrett College where he graduated in 2000 with an A.A. degree in Fine and Performing Arts. Having received a full scholarship to attend Frostburg State University, he majored in Art and Design with a focus in painting and graphic design. He graduated in 2002 with a B.F.A. degree and Departmental Honors. Since then, Lynn has spent time working as an illustrator, art teacher, and picture framer. In the studio, he has continued to make decisions about his preferred painting techniques, visual ideals, and subject matter.

Various subjects and themes have inspired Lynn’s paintings, but he has chosen to focus on figurative imagery. Though he takes commissions for formal portraits, Lynn prefers to depict people in context of their natural surroundings. Viewers are less concerned with who the person is and more interested in what they perceive the model to be doing, thinking, or feeling. Paintings of musicians and their musical moods reflect Lynn’s love for classical music. Spiritual paintings, which usually require figurative subject matter, are inspired by his vibrant faith in God.

Lynn exhibits at various locations and events. Showplaces have included Frostburg State University, Garrett College, Frostburg City Hall, and the Springs Folk Festival. He is a member of the Allegany Area Art Alliance and the Allegany Arts Council. Giclee prints of his work can be seen and purchased at the General Art Store (Frostburg, MD), Rocky Gap Lodge (Cumberland, MD), Penn Alps Craft Shop (Grantsville, MD), and Whispering Pines Furniture (Springs, PA).

Lynn resides in Springs, Pa. His art studio is open to the public within Whispering Pines Furniture in Springs. Lynn works there as a part-time custom designer and picture framer.
