Cheerful Monk The Cheerful Monk is a charming painting of a cast representing Francis of Assisi. He was a Catholic deacon who loved animals. Here, we see a bird on the water bowl. I was intrigued by the delighted expression in his face. This model held very still for me to hone in my powers of observation.
